description: Swales feature. This feature was created using a combination of aerials, LiDAR, Google Earth Streetview and heads-up digitizing. The Natural Resources volunteer that created the layer used the "County Maintained Roads" layer as a basis for identifying where the swales are in the county. She then manually drew each swale line over the aerial. A swale is determined by its depth. Swales are typically less than 3 feet deep and have the purpose of carrying stormwater from roads and lots. They are designed to hold stormwater for a maximum duration of 72 hours after a storm event and help cleanse stormwater of harmful sediments and nutrients before the water reaches a major waterbody.
